Wouldn't a dive mask work better than swim goggles?

I have both. The goggles are theoretically fog-free, but they fog anyways. They leak, even when tightly strapped on, and it's hard to see out of them anyways.

My dive mask never fogs, it feels much more comfortable, and it also keeps water out of my nose. Also, I can get corrective lenses for it that are much cheaper than prescription swim goggles.

The only drawback to dive masks is that it makes swimming too easy. That's why I force myself to swim without anything, goggles, masks, or nose plugs, on occasion. But, if you're going to 'cheat' by wearing something, why not use a dive mask?

I'm asking because I seldom see anybody at the pool with a dive mask, but almost everybody wears swim goggles.Wouldn't a dive mask work better than swim goggles?
go with the mask, why suffer????Wouldn't a dive mask work better than swim goggles?
In response to your comments,

I told you ';why not,'; but if you choose to deny the facts...so be it... Report Abuse

You usually don't see people wearing diving masks in swimming pools because...

- What works for you doesn't necessarily work for other people. For example, although your dive mask doesn't fog up, most other diving masks do fog up unless you spit on them or apply an anti-fog coating.

- Not everyone has a problem with leaky goggles; in fact, I've worn my goggles for several years of swimming, and they've seldom leaked. When they did leak, it was because the goggles were poorly adjusted. The quality of the goggles also affects whether or not they are leaky.

- Diving masks are typically larger than swimming goggles, and some people find that uncomfortable.

- Most swimming goggles are cheaper than most diving masks.

- It's more convenient to purchase swimming goggles than diving masks. For instance, swimming goggles are available at many department stores, (such as Walmart), where fewer diving masks are sold, if any.

- Having not worn a diving mask before, and never finding a need to do so, many people are probably unaware of the advantages of diving masks that you mentioned, and won't bother trying because they're afraid they may waste time and money on something that may not work.

- People typically associate ';swimming'; goggles with swimming, and ';diving'; masks with diving, so it may not be immediately obvious to people that wearing a diving mask to go swimming, is actually a possibility. On top of which, when one says, ';diving mask,'; many people probably think about those big, elliptical, (oval), ones...which may look rather strange when worn at a swimming pool.

And then there are personal preferences...if swimming goggles work better for you, then wear swimming goggles, if diving masks work better for you, then wear diving masks, etc.
