Paper mache mask making question?

The instructions say to use foil and put it over the childs face. My question is do I put the shiny side up or the dull side? Does this even matter, like will the foil come off the paper mache once the mask dries no matter what side is up?Paper mache mask making question?
It won't matter which side you use... just has to do with how it came off the machinery at the factory.

Have you ever tried plaster gauze strips instead? That will go much faster and also set much faster than layers of papier mache. (You can buy a roll of it at any craft store-- Rigid Wrap, etc-- or online in larger rolls.)

I used to do this on my son all the time (...be sure and pull/pin/headband all hair back from face, spread Vaseline all over the face as the ';resist,'; and also next to the hairline to keep any tiny hairs from sticking).

Here's a pic of my newphew after I made one on his face...it's almost ready to remove:

Glad to help! Do definitely check out the second link I gave above under **Forms to Use** though as well as ';Making Your Own Forms'; since there are lots of other things you could use to shape the gauze strips or papier mache on rather than a face, including other cheap masks, etc, etc. Report Abuse

Test it out on two small pieces of foil, but I would think the shiny side is the more slippery one.
