What kind of mask should i make? The only restriction is it needs to have somthing sticking out.

I make masks and I like to decide on a few things to get started:
1) full or half mask?
2) tied to my head or hand-held on a stick?
I most often have a character in mind. I like to do animal masks as there are so many possibilities but once in college we had to do masks of the classic Commedia del'Arte characters and those were great too.
